What does PN, SDR, HDPE, MDPE and LDPE mean pipe?

PN stands for 'Pressure Nominal' and is also refered to as the 'Bar Rating'. This is the maximum internal pressue the pipe is deisgned to handle.

SDR stands for 'Standard Diemsional Ratio' and is the raitio between the outer diameter   and the wall thickness wt.

SDR =  /wt

The higher the SDR rating the thinner the pipe is.

In the horticultural trade, the main pipe types are PE80 and PE 100. These refer to the strength of the polyethyelen used.

HDPE stands for 'High Density Polyethylene' and is usually PE100.

MDPE stands for 'Medium Density Polyethylene' and is usually PE80.

LDPE stands for 'Low Density Polyethylene'
